Sounds suspiciously like a slowly your engine in going to fuel starvation - I would be inclined to go over the fuel selector valve and its various lines - especially the vacuum line very closely.
You can test if it is a fuel selector tap issue by putting the fuel selector in the Prime Position and then taking your Savage for a blast. If there is no loss of power then definitely you have some sort of issue in the tap.
Starting with the fuel selector tap will be the simplist - you might have a pin hole in the vacuum line or the line might be weak and colapsing from age under higher powers - again leading to the vacuum diaphram in the selector tap not openning and fuel starvation.
